The purpose of the GDL is to provide a basic academic background to the main areas of law. The GDL is designed to impart a theoretical knowledge upon which all future practical work will be built.
It is considered to be both a grounding in, and an introduction to legal knowledge. For this reason, it is the first course that both a potential solicitor and a barrister must take when coming from another discipline.
